Our mortal dreams are fragile
born of hope and promise
we nurture and protect them
they draw their lifeblood from us
It is rare when someone enters our lives
to share our fragile dreams
we are vulnerable to their promises
to the happiness they bring
We hope our happiness will last forever
but sure as time goes by
it's elusiveness is again revealed to us
and our shared dreams fade and die
Each dieing spasm cuts us deeply
our pain makes us real
the wounds heal over slowly
not allowing us to feel
We speak of the joys that once were ours
and long for them again
I miss the happiness once shared with you,
my lifemate, partner, friend.
