Clearly, CocaineThis is a featured page

What is the Scientologists’ controlled substance of choice?[1] There was no need to phone a friend for the answer to this million-dollar question. My friend phoned me…

(31October2006, Phoenix , AZ ) In January 2004, I received a phone call from New Orleans. It was my friend, Michael Lewitz. He was exhausted and all he wanted to do was sleep, but he couldn’t because, according to him, Donald C. Lay, Jr., Ph.D., research team leader for the USDA at Purdue University and practicing Scientologist, had given him cocaine to ingest. When asked where Dr. Lay had obtained the cocaine, Michael responded that the people whom he was with were of such influence that they were able to basically order it delivered to their room as easily as if they had ordered room service.

According to statements issued by the Church of Scientology , “Scientologists use neither street drugs nor any of the dangerous mind-altering substances pushed as a solution to everything from stress to being overweight.” To that I posit the following question…is it even possible to be delusional enough to make such a statement without the benefit of a mind altering substance?

Prior to Michael Lewitz entering the scary world of Scientology, he was neither overweight nor did he use street drugs. Since beginning the practice of Scientology and being “audited” and put through L Ron Hubbard’s panacea known as the “Purification Rundown,” I have personally witnessed him exhibit every manifestation of borderline behavior along with a highly pronounced identity disturbance, dissociation, and psychogenic fugue, all of which culminated in an extreme episode of dysphoria and his suicide attempt. Then when I stopped by to visit him in Reynolds , IN , he experienced a reactive psychosis upon seeing me that lasted until the Sheriff’s Deputies’ arrival brought him back to reality.

The “Purification Rundown” was developed by L Ron Hubbard to free the individual of the toxic drug residuals which supposedly remain in the body for years after the individual has stopped using. These lingering drug residuals “have been known to cause lessened perception, tiredness, confused thinking and to create an artificial ‘drug personality,’ which can cause a person to harbor hostilities and distress that affect all aspects of his life.” Ironically, these are exactly the same affects that the practice of Scientology has had on Michael Lewitz.

This is clearly one of those rare instances in which the cure is far worse than the disease.

No one ever said that being free and living your life true to yourself would be easy. If this life is a test, Scientology is the equivalent of copying the answers from the dumbest person in the class, and using recreational drugs is the equivalent of not showing up to take the test at all. Any questions?
